A small, one-person 3D printing service has small, simple data needs. This page describes exactly what we collect when you use the site or submit a project, who we share it with (and why), how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Plain English, no dark patterns.

01 Who runs this site

BrokenITguy CustomWorks is a one-person custom 3D printing and design service operated by Hugo in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. References to "we," "us," or "our" mean BrokenITguy CustomWorks. Questions about this policy can go to info.customworks@brokenitguy.com.

02 What this policy covers

  • Browsing the public pages of this site (home, services, about, FAQ, logs, etc.).
  • Ordering a print through our Instant Quote page — where checkout, payment, and escrow are handled by our order partner, Treatstock (see section 06).
  • Signing up for our First Batch email list.
  • Submitting a custom project through the Studio page — our AI design service, coming soon (uploading files or images, describing your project, accepting our Terms, and submitting for a quote).
  • Receiving emails from us related to your order, your project, your invoice, or your payment.

It does not cover third-party sites we link to (YouTube, Instagram, Discord, GitHub, etc.). Those have their own privacy policies.

03 What we collect when you submit a project

When you use Studio to submit a project, we store:

  • Your contact details — name and email address, so we can quote and contact you.
  • Your project description — what you wrote in the Studio submission form.
  • Your files — anything you upload: reference images, supplied 3D files (STL, OBJ, 3MF), or both.
  • AI-generated previews — if you used the text-to-3D or image-to-3D path, we store the resulting 3D model and preview render so you (and we) can review it.
  • Internal project records — version history, status (intake, generating, preview-ready, approved, submitted, etc.), our internal notes about the project, and timestamps.
  • Submission record — your formal submission for a quote, plus any subsequent quote, invoice, and payment records linked to it.

04 What we collect from general site browsing

  • The site is delivered through Cloudflare. Cloudflare keeps standard request logs (IP address, user-agent, time, path) for security and abuse-prevention purposes. We do not run separate analytics, tracking pixels, ad networks, or third-party trackers on the marketing pages.
  • If you reach out by email, we keep that email so we can reply and have a record of the conversation.

05 How we use your data

  • To respond to your project, prepare a quote, generate previews, and produce and ship the part if you accept.
  • To send you confirmation, status, invoice, and follow-up emails about your project. We do not send marketing or promotional email.
  • To keep accounting, tax, and operational records as required by law and by the third-party services we use.
  • To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or misuse of the Studio submission system.
  • To improve how the system works (for example, learning that a particular type of file commonly fails) — never by selling or sharing your data.

06 Third parties we share data with

To run the system, we hand limited information to a small number of third-party services. The table below summarizes who gets what and why. Each service has its own privacy policy. The first two — Treatstock and MailerLite — are live today; the AI/Studio services below them apply once the Studio opens.

Service What we send Why
Treatstock Your order and uploaded print file(s), plus the name, email, and shipping details you enter at checkout, and your payment — card details go directly to Treatstock; we never see or store them. Our live order/checkout partner for the Instant Quote page: to take your order, process payment and escrow, and route the job to our shop.
MailerLite Your email address (and your consent) when you sign up for the First Batch list. To send your First Batch code and occasional updates. You can unsubscribe anytime.
Tripo (AI 3D) Your text prompt and/or your uploaded reference image when you use a Studio AI path. To generate the 3D preview model.
Google Gemini Only the text prompt you wrote (no images, no contact details). Optional prompt enhancement before generation.
QuickBooks Online Your name, billing email, and invoice/line-item details. To create and track invoices and accounting records.
PayPal Invoice metadata (no card numbers — those go directly between you and PayPal). To process payment when you pay an invoice.
ProtonMail Outgoing email content addressed to you (confirmations, status, invoices). To deliver email from CustomWorks_Orders@brokenitguy.com.
Cloudflare Standard request data (IP, headers) for any visitor to the site or to Studio. CDN, DNS, TLS, and abuse protection.
Carrier (USPS, UPS, etc.) Your shipping address and the package, when applicable to your order. To physically deliver a finished part to you.

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for unrelated marketing. We only share it with the providers above for the operational reasons listed.

07 AI-generated previews

  • If you use the text-to-3D or image-to-3D Studio path, the prompt or reference image you submit is sent to our AI provider (Tripo, optionally with prompt help from Gemini) for the sole purpose of generating a preview model for your project.
  • The generated 3D file and preview image are stored locally with your project record, not handed back to the AI provider for training.
  • Your project description and contact details are not sent to AI providers — only the specific prompt or image needed to generate the preview.

08 What we don't collect

  • We do not run advertising trackers, pixels, or fingerprinting scripts.
  • We do not sell or rent your contact info or project data.
  • We do not store payment card numbers or bank details. PayPal and QuickBooks handle those directly.
  • We do not currently require accounts or passwords for Studio submissions, so we do not store credentials.

09 Data retention

  • Project records, files, and previews are kept for as long as we reasonably need them to fulfill, support, and account for your order.
  • Invoice and accounting records are kept as long as required by tax law (typically several years) — those live in QuickBooks under our account.
  • Email correspondence is kept for normal business reference.
  • We do not have an automated deletion schedule yet. If you want your project data deleted, contact us — see section 11.

10 Security

  • The site runs over HTTPS. The Studio backend lives on a private network — it is not directly reachable from the public internet.
  • Customer-facing endpoints validate inputs and reject malformed or oversized uploads.
  • Payment card details are never handled by us — they go directly between you and PayPal.
  • That said, no system is perfectly secure. We will tell you if a breach affects your project records.

11 Your rights and how to use them

You can ask us to:

  • See what project data we have associated with your email.
  • Correct contact details or project description we have on file.
  • Delete your project record, uploaded files, and generated previews. (Note: invoice and accounting records may have to be kept under tax law even after the project record is removed.)
  • Export a copy of your project data and any AI-generated previews we have.

Email info.customworks@brokenitguy.com from the address you submitted under, and tell us what you want done. We will respond in a reasonable time.

12 Children's privacy

This is a custom-fabrication service intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from people under 13. If you believe a child has submitted a project, contact us and we will remove their data.

13 Cookies and similar technologies

  • The marketing pages do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • The Studio page may keep a small amount of state in your browser (e.g., your project ID during a session) so it can resume the flow if you reload. This is local to your device and is not used for tracking.
  • Cloudflare may set its own functional cookies for security and routing. These are operational, not advertising.

14 Changes to this policy

  • This policy may change as the business or systems change.
  • The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the current version.
  • For significant changes affecting existing customers, we will try to communicate updates by email or a notice on the site when practical.
