A small, one-person 3D printing shop has small, simple data needs. This page describes exactly what we collect when you browse the site or place an order, who we share it with (and why), how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Plain English, no dark patterns.
01 Who runs this site
BrokenITguy CustomWorks, a custom 3D-printing shop operated from Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. References to "we," "us," or "our" mean BrokenITguy CustomWorks. Questions about this policy can go to info.customworks@brokenitguy.com.
02 What this policy covers
- Browsing the public pages of this site.
- Ordering a print through our Instant Quote page and checkout.
- Signing in to MY ACCOUNT and the emails we send about your order.
- Signing up for our First Batch email list.
It does not cover third-party sites we link to (YouTube, Instagram, Discord, GitHub, etc.). Those have their own privacy policies.
03 What we collect when you order
- Your contact and shipping details — name, email, and shipping address, so we can invoice, produce, and ship your order and contact you about it.
- Your model file(s) — the STL or 3MF you upload, used only to quote and produce your order.
- Any notes you add — color placement, deadlines, anything you tell us about the job.
- Order records — your quote, invoice, approval, payment status, and shipment record.
04 General browsing
- Basic server logs (IP address, user-agent, request time and path) are kept for security and reliability. We do not run analytics trackers, advertising pixels, or third-party tracking scripts, and we do not build advertising profiles.
- If you reach out by email, we keep that email so we can reply and have a record of the conversation.
05 How we use your data
- To quote, produce, ship, and support your order.
- To send order emails (confirmation, invoice, receipt, shipping) and one-time sign-in links.
- To keep accounting and tax records as required by law.
- To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or misuse of the ordering system.
- Only if you opt in: our First Batch email list. Ordering never signs you up for marketing.
06 Third parties we share data with
To run the shop, we hand limited information to a small number of services. The table summarizes who gets what and why; each has its own privacy policy. We do not use an escrow or marketplace middleman — you order directly from us.
| Service | What we send | Why |
|---|---|---|
| PayPal | The amount to charge and order metadata. Your card or account details go directly between you and PayPal — we never see or store them. | To process payment when you approve and pay your invoice. |
| QuickBooks Online | Your name, email, and invoice line-item details. | To create and keep the invoice and accounting records tax law requires. |
| Email delivery (ProtonMail) | Outgoing email content addressed to you (confirmations, invoices, sign-in links, receipts). | To deliver order email from our @brokenitguy.com addresses. |
| MailerLite | Your email address (and your consent) — only when you sign up for the First Batch list. | To send your First Batch code and occasional updates. Unsubscribe anytime. |
| Carrier (USPS, UPS, etc.) | Your shipping address and the package. | To physically deliver the finished part to you. |
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for unrelated marketing. If our AI design service (the Studio) opens later, any services it uses will be added to this table before they touch customer data.
07 Previews
Any software-generated preview or render of your model (on the site, in emails, or in your account) is derived only from the file you provide, to help you and us see the order — it is not shared with anyone else or reused.
08 What we don't collect
- We never see or store your payment-card numbers or bank details — PayPal handles those directly.
- No advertising trackers, pixels, or fingerprinting scripts.
- No passwords — sign-in is by one-time emailed link, so there is no password to store or breach.
- We don't collect more than we need to fulfill your order.
09 Data minimization and retention
We're built to hold as little as possible. Identifying details and any order notes tied to an order are stored encrypted, so a breach of our public storefront yields ciphertext, not readable personal data.
Your uploaded model files and order history stay attached to your account for as long as you keep the account, so you can view past orders and reorder. You can close your account at any time by emailing info.customworks@brokenitguy.com — we then delete your account, your uploaded files, and your identifying details, keeping only the minimal order and payment records we're required to retain for tax and accounting purposes.
10 Security
- Encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest for identifying details.
- Least-privilege access and a hardened server; customer-facing endpoints validate inputs and reject malformed or oversized uploads.
- Payment details never touch our systems — they go directly between you and PayPal.
- No system is perfectly secure, but we minimize what we hold so a breach exposes as little as possible. We will tell you if a breach affects your records.
11 Your rights and how to use them
You can ask us to:
- See what we hold associated with your email.
- Correct contact or order details we have on file.
- Delete your account, files, and identifying details (invoice and accounting records may have to be kept under tax law).
- Export a copy of your order data.
Email info.customworks@brokenitguy.com from the address you ordered with and tell us what you want done. We will respond in a reasonable time.
12 Children's privacy
This is a custom-fabrication service intended for adults. This site isn't directed at children under 13 and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has placed an order, contact us and we will remove their data.
13 Cookies
- We use only what's needed for the site and your signed-in session (a session cookie set when you use your sign-in link).
- The quote and Studio pages may keep a small amount of state in your browser (for example, an in-progress quote or project) so they can resume if you reload — this stays on your device and is not used for tracking.
- No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
14 Changes to this policy
This policy may change as the business or systems change; the current version and its effective date always live on this page. For significant changes affecting existing customers, we'll try to communicate updates by email or a notice on the site when practical.
